Science Olympiad In the News

An article in the latest issue of NSELA’s Science Educator magazine regarding the alignment of Math Standards to Science Olympiad events – the conclusion says it all!
“The findings in this study indicate there is a significant level of math content found in both divisions of Science Olympiad. What may be more significant is that the mathematics within these events demonstrate high Depth of Knowledge levels. Specifically, events which require students to engage in analysis, synthesis, and generalizability of results over time are particularly demanding since student are to produce new knowledge. The Division B and C events of Science Olympiad create a passion for learning science by supporting middle and high school science and math content with an emphasis on teamwork and commitment to academic excellence.”

2018 Season Ends with an Outstanding State Tournament

UCO was once again the site of the Oklahoma Science Olympiad State Tournament with 32 teams competing for the honor of representing Oklahoma at the national competition in May in Fort Collins, Colorado.  Thanks to all of the members schools and the Coaches and students who worked so hard and gave their best efforts to the Science Olympiad this year. Thanks also go to over 60 volunteers who served as Event Supervisors, event helpers, clerical staff, and tournament managers at the State Tournament.  None of the tournament can take place without these fine folks who devote there time, talent, and expertise to work together to produce this great event. Special thanks goes to Dr. Beth Allan, who serves as the Tournament Director and coordinates most of the facility and local talent logistics of the tournament.  She knows who to call when participants are locked out of their room and makes sure we have the spaces needed to operate the events.  Finally, we have two thank the University of Central Oklahoma and the College of Math and Science which serves as host, and now the home of the Oklahoma Science Olympiad.
